Economics Minister Mansoori visits Hilscher

Hattersheim, 22. Aug. 2024 – The Minister for Economics, Energy, Transport, Housing and Rural Areas of the German federal state of Hesse, Kaweh Mansoori (SPD), has visited Hilscher Gesellschaft für Systemautomation mbH to find out about the current state of the German automation industry. During the visit at the Hilscher headquarter in Hattersheim am Main, the main focus was on the safety of industrial plants worldwide, the shortage of skilled workers in Germany and the promotion of Hesse as a business location.

“Resilience is the keyword,” stated SPD politician Mansoori after the meeting with Hilscher managers Thomas Rauch, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Dr. Fabian Debus, Chief Production Officer (CPO) at the specialist for industrial communication. “Globalized supply chains must not only be aimed at short-term cost savings, but must also be resilient in the event of a crisis. Europe also needs sources of supply for systemically important goods on the continent. We must also prepare for increasing attacks with regard to cyber security.”

Hilscher and its market participants are in technological competition with potential attackers in order to continuously make systems more secure. Being able to visit an employer like Hilscher here in Hesse, which plays a central role in this security, is extremely exciting and interesting.

Automation companies are central to the safety of industrial plants

Hilscher has a key role to play in this situation, as industrial communication is one of the main entry points for criminals in this area, explained CTO Thomas Rauch in discussion with Economics Minister Mansoori. “In the current geopolitical situation, industrial plants are key targets for attacks - and we are working to fend off these attacks or, ideally, prevent them from happening in the first place.”

At Hilscher, a medium-sized German high-tech company that manufactures electronic assemblies for data exchange between machines, Mansoori visited the local SMD production facility, among other things. He also had the functionality of Hilscher products in factories and systems explained to him and discussed future topics in the automation industry.

But Hilscher's management also addressed demands to politicians in Germany and especially in Hesse, where Hilscher has its headquarters. CPO Fabian Debus mentioned simplified approval procedures, which are urgently needed to speed up processes. The Hessian Ministry of Economics intends to remain in contact with the company in this regard explained Minister Mansoori.

Political summer tour 2024

The Economics Minister's visit to Hilscher is part of a tour lasting several days, during which Mansoori wants to find out about current issues, challenges and solutions in German companies. The aim is to identify the needs of companies that can be implemented at state level. “The way we produce and work is currently changing at a rapid pace,” said the minister. “Demographic change, digitalization and decarbonization are key drivers that we need to adapt to in order to be competitive and fit for the future.”

On his tour through the Hessian economy, the Minister will visit various branches of industry - from traditional companies to start-ups and hidden champions, in order to get an accurate picture of the respective sectors. Among others, the schedule includes:

  • Volkswagen
  • Ferrero
  • ALSTOM Transportation Germany GmbH
  • Pirelli Deutschland GmbH
  • Pikatron GmbH
  • Pfeiffer Vacuum Technology AG

Mansoori has been Minister for Economic Affairs, Energy, Transport, Housing and Rural Areas in the German state of Hesse and Deputy Prime Minister of Hesse since the beginning of 2024. He has been a member of the German Social Democratic Party (SPD) since 2006.
